Three Ways To Spice Up A Chocolaty Drink

Hi Guys! I’m really glad many of you liked my Ask Bern post. I was contemplating when I should blog this post, but even though it’s barely thanksgiving, I’m feeling the holiday cheer!! I love making hot chocolate during the holidays and over time I’ve found a way to spice them up a bit. You can do these with a delicious hot cocoa recipe, or make one just as delicious with Nesquick chocolate milk mix (we’ve all been there). Anyways, here’s two recipes for hot cocoa as well as three delicious ways to spice them up:

Using a mix:

2 cups of milk (475ml)

4 tbs. cocoa mix (30g)

Mix all of the ingredients together in a small pot on medium low heat until it reaches the desired hot temperature. Serve and enjoy!

My recipe for hot cocoa WITHOUT using a mix:

3-1/2 cups of milk (any kind will do) (820ml)

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (40g)

1/4 cup (or more if you want) of white sugar (50g)

1 tsp. vanilla extract (5ml)

a pinch of salt

1 tsp. instant espresso powder (I know what your thinking but adding that coffee really inhances the chocolate flavor) (5ml)

1/4 cup chocolate chips (30g)

1/2 cup of half and half or heavy cream (this just makes your cocoa extra creamy and makes it cool faster) (120ml)

1/3 cup boiling water (80ml)

In a medium saucepan, add the cocoa powder, sugar, Β instant espresso and salt. Then add the boiling water and stir on low heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Add the milk and stir on medium heat until incorporated.

Add the chocolate chips and stir until the chocolate chips have melted. Continue to simmer on low until desired warmth, but be careful not to scorch your chocolate.

Turn off the heat; add the vanilla extract and stir.

Add the half and half or heavy cream to glasses, then pour in the chocolate. Enjoy!

Wiss Mocha: Add two tsp. of instant espresso to your cocoa .

Orange: Add orange peel from about one to two large oranges to your cocoa. (Be sure to stain the peels out of your your final product).

Spiced: Add two tsp. of cinnamon powder or three cinnamon sticks to your cocoa. Then, add 1 tsp. of nutmeg and two star anise. (Be sure to take out the star anise and cinnamon sticks before serving).

Hope you guys like it!πŸ˜‹πŸ€—
