Countdown to Christmas Dec. 18th, 2016

Hello everyone!! Today’s recipe comes from YOURS TRULY! I’m really excited to share this recipe with you guys. My mom made these for my siblings and I and they were always enjoyed. They are really special to me because not only do they taste delicious but they always remind me of when my mom makes them.

These are also really great any time of the year. To make them Christmas related, you can add colored sprinkles. I would suggest using sprinkles like jimmies though if you’re doing that, because you wouldn’t want the sprinkles to bleed into the mixture.

These treats are basically jumbo marshmallows melted with plain Cheerios until combined. They are somewhat like rice cereal treats but my mom put a twist on them by using the Cheerios. I personally love the soft crunch the Cheerios give to thus treat. ( You can use rice cereal or any bland, plain cereal instead if you prefer).

These are so addictive so just try not to eat them right out of the pot. Enjoy!!

Marshmallow Cheerio Treats Recipe

3 to 3-1/2 cups of Cheerios or 420-450g (it depends how Cheerioey you want your treats to be)

one bag of jumbo marshmallows (24 oz. or one pound)

Much needed equipment- COOKING SPRAY (this could get sticky!!!)

Grease a large pot with cooking spray. Add the marshmallows and cook until the marshmallows are completely melted on LOW heat stirring frequently. This should take around 10 minutes in total. (Marshmallows melt pretty quickly so keep your eyes on these).

Once the marshmallows are melted, add the Cherrios and stir quickly but carefully. Add as much cereal as you feel fit.

Turn off the heat and give your cereal one more good mix through.

Have a greased pan ready to dump the mixture into. Spread the mix out evenly into the pan. Let this set for about ten minutes. Wet a knife for easy slicing and cut into squares.

For an alternative, wet your hands and form the mixture into balls. Place on a platter and serve.

Enjoy! 😋😋

  1. I’ve always used rice crispies in recipes like this, but I’m loving the idea of using Cherrios. I have a bag of peppermint marshmallows waiting for a purpose. Looks like I’ve found it! 🙂
